Guest of the Melbourne Writers Festival 2011

Peter Arkleís illustrations of everyday life have appeared in a mind-boggling variety of publications including The New Yorker and†Time magazine. Peter has illustrated everything from commercial products to bodily functions, observing awkward moments with great humour.

The sporadic publication Peter Arkle News documents his life in an engagingly simple way. Using black ink and flat colours, P.A.N. celebrates minor victories over the post office, musings on coffee and the grimacing faces of the general public. Well past its 50th publication, itís been a major part of his creative process since 1993.

Short deadlines have pushed him to develop a working process involving self-posing and some amusing photo-collages. These techniques reflect a humble and forthcoming illustrator who understands that shortcuts have an important role in creative processes.
