Marty Willson-Piper is one of the three founding members of the Australian band The Church. While busking his way around the globe in 1980 at the tender age of 21, the Liverpool born guitarist, saw one of the band's first Sydney gigs and soon joined as a full-time member alongside Steve Kilbey and Peter Koppes.

Success came quickly for the band with their early single The Unguarded Moment becoming a hit single in Australia. Since that time the band has morphed, developed and built an international reputation for creating some of the most seamlessly beautiful and atmospheric songs of their generation.

In 2008, a survey among readers of Melbourne newspaper The Age voted Under the Milky Way as the best Australian song of the last 21 years. In recent times the band has been in career high form with their recently released Untilted #23 album receiving a five star review in Rolling Stone and their live shows being some of the best of their career.
