Jim Woodring's best material in his acclaimed series of comics, books and graphic novels comes from a detailed excavation of his dreams. Childhood paranoias mix with adult nightmares, hallucinations and gibbering visions.
With a rich and varied life behind him, Jim’s world distorts the hyperreal reality of 50s America. Big cars, rigid gender roles and neon colours morph into a dripping, oversized styrofoam wonderland. The Frank Book documents encounters between the “generic anthropomorph” Frank and a cohort of surreal and often obscene forms and environments.
Jim's work has developed a cult following worldwide and he is frequently listed as one of the most influential illustrators of his generation.
