BruceRamus
Internationally renowned lighting expert Bruce Ramus uses light to integrate people and the environments that they inhabit. Through his work in concert lighting, public art and architectural facades, Bruce has managed to integrate interactive technology into a variety of deceptively simple structures.
Ramus was involved in the music industry leading up to his position as a Lighting Director for a host of international events and acts, including touring with U2, R.E.M. and David Bowie. Since relocating to Melbourne, he’s been expanding his practice as an installation artist.
For his work Light Hearts in Melbourne’s Fed Square, Ramus built a pyramid out of scaffolding which was adorned with rows of LED lights, lanterns and public offerings. The enthusiastic response from the public was encouraged by simple, modifiable forms. In urban spaces that are increasingly dominated by high resolution screens and bright lighting, Bruce’s simple structures demonstrate some of the simpler and warmer qualities of light.
