InFrame.tv Glidetrack 1st shoot from compulsive on Vimeo.
Last Friday I shot a online documentary for Fifteen Melbourne, which will appear on their website later this month. For those who are unaware, Fifteen is a group of four restaurants originally started by celebrity chief extraordinaire Jamie Oliver. The idea behind the restaurants is to open a top class restaurant which gives disadvantaged teenagers the chance to gain professional
training that can set them up for a better life.
Apart from being a wonderful subject for a online doco, the shoot at Fifteen also gave me the chance to road test some of my new equipment which we'll be showcasing in upcoming InFrame.tv films. The video compile attached shows the four shots we shot using my new Glidetrack HD. My Canon 5D Mark11 is mounted on the Glidetrack HD, which then allows short (1 metre) dolly moves. With a bit of modification the Glidetrack can be attached to my tripod, placed on any steady surface wider than 1 metre or on the ground, to give quick dolly shots without having to lay down cumbersome and time-consuming dolly tracks.
The Glidetrack does take a bit of getting used to but the results are promising and
immediately useful. I found it a little difficult to get the dolly movement
and a focus adjustment happening at the same time, which is something that will improve with practice I'm sure, but overall I'm happy with the results of it's first outing.
